From Panic to Peace: How MAP Helped Me Conquer My Deepest Phobias
We all have things that make us uneasy. But for some of us, that uneasiness spirals into a debilitating fear that stops us from going for what we want or getting on with our day.
I know this feeling intimately. Like so many of you, I have suffered from a variety of phobias throughout my life, specifically: flying, snakes, and public speaking. All of which I would say seem to be pretty common in the world of phobias.
For years, I tried to manage these fears. I explored many methods, and while they often offered relief, it was often short-lived. I realised later that these methods were often treating one aspect of the phobia or the symptom, not the root cause. What they didn’t appear to address was the complex structure of memories, experiences, and beliefs that held the phobia in place.
For example, my fear of public speaking wasn't just about talking; it was a fear of being visible from when I was bullied at school. My fear of flying wasn't about the plane; it was about being trapped and out of control, as control meant safety.
Everything changed when I discovered MAP (Make Anything Possible). Here is how it transformed my reality.
The Snake Test
I had a photoshoot a while back, and I knew in advance that there would be snakes on set. Previously, I couldn't even stand to be near one. I used MAP beforehand. Even with just a quick session, the shift was undeniable: I went from wanting to flee the room to happily having a snake resting on my head.
The Fear of Being Visible
Recently, I’ve been helping clients navigate the fear of public speaking. Together, we often uncover childhood experiences that led to debilitating self-judgment and a fear of being judged by others. I resonated deeply with this. I used to shy away from the camera because I simply didn't feel safe being visible.
It is important to remember that fear is actually a good thing, as biologically, it keeps us safe. But when it stops us from taking our dream trip or standing up to speak about a subject we are passionate about, it becomes a barrier to our dreams.
Long-Haul Flights: 15 Hours to Japan
The biggest test came with a trip to Japan. This involved two 15-hour flights, something I could never have dreamt of doing previously without medication (which UK doctors rarely prescribe for flight anxiety anymore).
In the past, you would have found me clinging to the seat in front of me, jumping at every sound, and stuck in a loop of constant rumination that I was going to die.
The result after MAP? I was calm. I was present. The constant rumination of my impending doom was gone. My only challenge was the boredom of being locked in a flying metal box for 15 hours as someone who likes to be active!
Through the MAP process, I discovered where this fear actually came from: a need to control in order to feel safe. MAP cleared and updated those old safety mechanisms.
How Does MAP Work?
You might be wondering how we achieve these shifts.
During a session, we bring focus to the subject without retraumatising you. We breathe and relax while we instruct your Superconscious to treat the issue as I guide the session. We treat just enough each time to take the pain out of the trauma until the trigger is completely neutral or dramatically reduced.
Crucially, we treat the whole structure, not just the symptoms.
Because we treat the entire structure of associations, you often find ripple effects in other areas of your life. For instance, I once did a session on self-esteem and walked away with the unexpected benefit of having no need to procrastinate anymore.
Remember, everything our mind does is for self-preservation. Even procrastination is a way to keep us "safe" (e.g., keeping us in the same place where it is predictable).
The Possibilities Are Endless
Whether it’s taking that dream trip, achieving your goals of starting a business, or overcoming a lifelong phobia, MAP can help clear the path.
You don't have to live with the limits your fears have set for you.
